The JR Foundation Scholars Fund

The JR Foundation Scholars Fund was made possible by Jose Resendiz, lead designer of JR Studio. As a first-generation graduate, Resendiz would not have been able to achieve a post-secondary career without the financial aid from private scholarships. In 2010, Resendiz graduated from Cross Keys High School and obtained a four-year scholarship from the Goizueta Foundation to attend Reinhardt University and pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing & Graphic Design. In 2014, he was awarded a Presidential Scholarship from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and received his Master’s Degree in Visual Communication Design.

As someone who came from a low-income background, Resendiz understands there are significant roadblocks to getting a college education. Today, access to education is still not evenly distributed, even with scholarships for Hispanic students available. Undergraduate and graduate students in the Hispanic community are one of the most disadvantaged groups when it comes to a college education. The development of this scholarship fund is designed to increase the number of students of Hispanic / Latino origin who want to continue their studies. It has been a long life dream to one day pay it forward and help the next set of first-year students who can demonstrate ongoing leadership and service to the Hispanic community.
